Survival Classes

Wildlife Prairie Park is excited to announce a new offering to our educational programs, Survival Classes. These classes are a unique opportunity to learn techniques like building a shelter, making drinking water, and more which you may need in a Nature Hike, Winter Survival, or how to Forage for local plants in season.

  • All classes will spend time indoors and outdoors, but depending on the class and the weather, the indoor portion will vary.
  • Classes are designed for ages 14+ and scouts. If 14 years and under, an adult is required to also attend the class.
  • Dress for the weather.
  • Bring drinking water.


Classes will be held 10am-1pm.
Meeting location: Log Room
Price: $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers
Maximum 40 people per class.


Nature Hike
Hike around the Park and learn key basic survival skills! Not only will you learn about finding shelter, starting a fire, and techniques for making drinkable water, but you will also learn about the local ecosystem.

Class scheduled for October 2nd, 2021.

Winter Survival
Outdoor survival to the extreme! Learn how to withstand the harsh Midwestern winters by building a shelter, knowing what foods to look for, discussing many techniques for making drinking water, and creating and identifying emergency signals.

Class scheduled for January 22nd, 2022.

Forage to Table
Add a little adventure to your everyday culinary class! Learn from an expert about what local plants are in season, go foraging around the Park, then make and taste test simple recipes!
