Be a Keeper for a Day

Curious what it takes to be an animal keeper? Join our animal keepers as they provide the daily cleaning, care and dietary needs of our animals.  You will learn about what it takes to care for all the animals at the park.

Currently accepting dates for February 2021.  We are able to host 1 child/family each day Friday-Sunday only.

Arrival time is 8:30am and completion is 12pm.  We ask that all guests dress weather appropriate for the day they will be a keeper.  Closed toed shoes and masks are required.  We recommend bringing a snack and a water bottle as well.  We ask that all guests refrain from arriving earlier then the 8:30am time frame to allow our keepers the time to complete morning safety checks.  Guests will enter the service gate and will receive a code to enter the day of their experience.

Date:  Friday-Sunday only 
(exact date to be mutually agreed upon with both parties – please allow minimum 2 weeks notice)

Time: 8:30am-12:00pm

Animal Routes:

Animal Ambassadors – reptile collection, skunk, rabbits, and birds of prey (all participants under 13 are restricted to this area only)

Carnivores and herds– Bison, elk, otters, birds of prey and more

Age: 6yrs and up all participants 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Price: $150 per participant (1 free chaperoning adult for ages 6-13)

All participants receive a water bottle, park bag and photo with an animal ambassador.

COVID-19 Requirement:
We ask all participants to wear a mask throughout their day at the park. As they will be working closely with Wildlife Prairie Park staff.

Animal Ambassador Keeper

**All participates ages 6-13yrs can only assist in this area and need to be accompanied by and adult

8:30-9:00am Arrival at the park and meet with your keeper at Forest Hall.  Animal keeper will provide a tour of the area and cover safety rules for the day.

9:00-9:30am Opening animal care for the owls and bunnies in the main classroom

9:30-10:15am Animal care for the large raptors outside (bald eagle, turkey vulture, red-tailed hawk) and our pig “Rooster”

10:15-10:30am Break for the keepers

10:30-11:30am Animal care of reptile and amphibian collection (snakes, turtles, toads, salamanders)

11:30am-12pm Behind the scenes tour or Merrill Woods and photo opportunity with an animal ambassador

Large Carnivore and Herd Keeper

**All participants ages 13 –adults of all ages

8:30-9:00am Arrival at the park and meet with your keeper at Animal Kitchen.  Animal keeper will provide a tour of the area and cover safety rules for the day.

9:00-10:15am Opening Animal care in the pioneer and Walden pond loop (farm animals, swans, crane, river otters and Molly the black bear) and helping with the Otter Feeding program hosted at 10am.

10:15-10:30am Break for the keepers

10:30-11:30am Assisting the keepers feed the bison and elk herd

11:30am-12pm Behind the scenes tour of Forest Hall animals and photo opportunity with an animal ambassador
