SUMMARY:Winter Tree Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Experience the healing benefits of nature and join Kim and Rene
e from SunnyMoon Rising for a short hike to a wooded area and to find a tr
ee of your choice to connect with. You will then be guided through an imme
rsive experience focusing on the sights\, sounds\, smells\, feels\, and ta
stes around you. This Japanese technique of mindful connection to nature i
s known as shinrin-yoku or forest bathing. Kim and Renee have added their
own unique touch to the forest bathing experience by embedding what they c
all\, “Tree Meditation”. This easy and slow hike with frequents stops
through nature spaces is not meant to be cardio exercise\, but rather a mi
ndful experience. There will be an opportunity to engage in an activity or
make a craft from materials from nature (ex. terrariums\, other nature ar
t\, water mandalas\, journaling\, and more). Weather permitting you can ex
pect to be outside for at least the hike and meditation. If you have never
hiked or meditated outside during the winter\, you will want to try this!
The peacefulness and stillness are so calming and something you'll look f
orward to every winter.\nJanuary 4: Be the Bears (Healing benefits of Hibe
rnation and Reflective Journaling) \nUsing knowledge gained as Master Natu
ralists through the Illinois Extension and their passion for all things Mo
ther Earth\, the January 4 tree meditation will include guided imagery and
information about the healing benefits of hibernation\, reflective journa
ling\, and how people should slow down as nature does in the winter. Regis
tered attendees will be gifted with a journal and pinecone Firestarter. Pi
ne needle tea will be offered for the optional taste portion of the sense
immersion. Facts about bear hibernation will also be included. You will le
ave feeling “rooted in knowledge”. \nGrounding in nature following a s
ound bath helps lengthen the benefits of that therapy so be sure to sign u
p for the 1 p.m. Sound Bath too!\n\nLocation: Meet at the Visitor Center\n
 * FREE for members\, and FREE for non-members with paid admittance.\n* Chi
ldren under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. \n* Sessions may cancel i
f it is actively storming\, or travel to the park is dangerous. Those who
sign up in advance will be notified by e-mail of cancellations or meeting
location changes.\n* Registration required. Sign Up\n\nTips from the Pros:
Weather permitting\, you will be outside 30 minutes or longer\, so warm g
ear is suggested for your comfort (coat\, hat or ear covering\, gloves\, w
arm boots\, hand/foot warmers\, blanket). We have some rugs available for
sitting but attendees may bring a chair\, blanket and/or yoga mat for addi
tional comfort. An indoor space will be used should the weather become bad
. If you aren't used to being outside in nature during the winter\, you wi
ll fall in love with it! Spots are limited so reserve yours early. A water
  bottle is also suggested.\n
